Director
Jo brings breadth and depth of experience to her role as Director in project forecasting, planning, and execution. Jo’s projects include federal grant management, training and technical assistance, and multi-stakeholder coalition coordination and direction, as well as large- and small-scale needs assessments to meet a variety of regulatory and grant requirements. She has a depth of experience in qualitative research, project management, by-laws and group charters, strategic planning, and federal and state grant and proposal writing.
Before joining Crescendo, Jo worked at several consulting firms providing training and technical assistance to clients working in substance use prevention, intervention, and treatment. This has included research on evidence-based best policies and practices at the community, local, and state levels to address the root causes of substance use disorders and how to address them. As a Support for the Strategic Prevention Framework Application for Prevention Success Trainer (SAPST), Jo provided Drug-Free Community grant recipients and local coalition directors across Maine the skills and knowledge they need to plan, implement, and evaluate data-driven programs and practices. Her work as a Drug-Free Communities coalition director in the City of Portland has been recognized at the state and federal levels.
Jo graduated with a Master of Public Health degree from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine and a BA in English and Communications from Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Jo is also a graduate of the Maine Development Foundation’s Institute for Civic Leadership Omicron class; the Maine Council on Aging’s Leadership Exchange on Ageism, has held a certificate as a Prevention Specialist from IC&RC (expired), and Citi Certificates in Human Research and Social & Behavioral Research (expires 9/2028).
